Top 5 Mobile Campaigns of 2012

2012 was proclaimed by many different people and the media as the “Year of Mobile” – we wanted to share the top 5 text message marketing (SMS/MMS) campaigns that we covered this year to show how innovative and creative different brands were with their mobile marketing programs (in no particular order):

1. Bloomingdale’s registry text campaign

Major American Department retail chain, Bloomingdale’s, decided to tie “The Knot” with mobile marketing. With their elegant yet effective advertisement, Bloomie’s used an interactive mobile marketing campaign to drive traffic to their registry program. In the most recent issue of the trendy wedding magazine, The Knot, Bloomingdale’s displayed a QR code accompanied by an MMS text-in call to action “Text MONIQUE to 21534″.

2. Cox Media Group Radio Station – 10 schools, 10 cheers, 1 winner

The 2012 Gridiron Invasion is the brainchild of Cox Media Group radio station, The New 93Q in Houston, Texas.  Sponsored by nationwide Pizza restaurant chain, Papa John’s, this program highlighted 10 local Houston high schools competed for a live concert on campus with American Idol’s Lauren Alaina.

Each schools’ cheerleading team came to the radio station and performed their favorite cheer on air.  Radio listeners and school fans were invited to text in the name of their school to the shortcode 70123. The school with the most votes won the live concert and bragging rights.

3. Crowdsourcing the storm: Images of SuperStorm Sandy are Flooding In…

4. Walmart Teams up with T-Mobile to Bring Music to Your College Town!

Walmart shoppers and fans were invited to text ROCK plus their college town to 91919 (msg&data rates may apply).  Anyone in the U.S. was able to vote, once a day, as many times as they would like between the start date and August 15, 2012. Those who joined received a video from the band Fun., including links to easily share the video with all their friends on Facebook!

The prize?  The top 3 town winners will host a Walmart Soundcheck concert, featuring a hot summer artist.

5. Paranomal Activity 4 – “Want it” Movie Trailer

Paranormal Activity 4 is the most recent feature film installment of the Paranormal Activity movie series and their fanbase is larger than ever. To give the audience the ability to vote for their town to receive the early screenings of the film, viewers of the movie trailer were prompted text  ”want it” to 21534 to vote and also to receive exclusive clips and content about the upcoming movie.

This was a creative way to engage and build excitement for the movie’s release.
